Foil stamping is produced by heating an engraved metal plate, usually made of solid magnesium then sandwiching a colored foil in between the label substrate and the hot plate. The foil that comes into contact with the raised portion of the heated plate is transferred to the label substrate by using extreme pressure from the hot stamp press. The uniqueness of foil stamping versus other methods of printing is the use of actual metallic foils to add pizzazz to promote an elegant product that may not be duplicated with flexography.
Foil stamp labels are able to withstand the elements. They don’t flake, and they are resistant to scratching and rubbing. Hot stamp labels are also resistant to chemicals, such as alcohol, perfume, shampoo and hand lotions.
Foils are available in a full range of colors, holographic images and patterns along as well as clear and frosted to accent label printing.
